History Students Visit the National Archives
TECH! 8th Graders visited the National Archives Pacific Regional Facility in Laguna Nigel to see how historians research history.

TECH! 7th Graders Watch "Romeo and Juliet"
Mr. Azer's class traveled to Hollywood to see a live production of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" at the historic Ricardo Montalban Theater. The students saw this famous drama as they prepared to study the play in class.

Minimum Day Schedule with dismissal at 12:12pm. All students are to report to Advisory (Homeroom) at 7:23am. Students will test from 7:23am to 9:30am. One Brunch period will follow from 9:30am to 10:00am (students will need their LUNCH ticket). Students will then return to Advisory to test from 10:06am to 12:12pm.

Civil War Living History
8th grade students learned about the Civil War by examining period artifacts and interacting with volunteers interpreting different aspects of the Civil War

On 3/24/08, the state of California PORTS (Parks Online Resources for Teachers and Students) program came to South Gate Middle School for a live video conference with state Assemblymember Hector De La Torre. Mr. Vidal's 8th Grade U.S. History students participated in this video conference.

Ms. Redford's 7th Grade History students from TECH! SLC visited the Natural History Museum of LA County on Monday, as they continued to learn about world civilizations, and how society connects to our environment.

Show your school pride and stay warm by purchasing your school sweater and sweats. Buy your school sweats at the student store. You can choose gray or black, mix and match. Sweat pants are straight legged and have two pockets with the school logo in white. The cost is $15. Sweat shirts can be with or without a hood in gray or black, with the school logo in white. Hooded sweat shirts are $15 and regular sweat shirts are $12. This items can be worn during P.E., during the school day, because they have the school logo on it.

7th grade Magnet Field Trip to Catalina Island
7th grade magnet students participated in a field trip on feb 29-March 2. The three day stay involved non-stop activities and hands on approach to learning. Terrestrial and water labs provided excellent opportunities for the students to taste algae, dissect squids, get up close to mollusks, and enter dark caves where they experience the world of deep sea fish . Perhaps some of the most memorable events involved wet suit snorkeling and diving into the Pacific Ocean. For pictures browse through the photo album to the right (under magnet school)

Physical Fitness Testing Preparation
Attention students, parents, teachers, administrators and staff!
Our physical fitness testing is fast approaching. All physical education classes will meet in the auditorium on February 4th for an orientation about this important assessment. The physical education department will be sending a packet home with students. This packet includes information about the Fitnessgram physical fitness test.
